Luxury superyacht the Equanimity has docked at the Boustead Cruise Centre in Port Klang.

The 91.5m-long vessel appeared on the horizon of the centre's jetty about 12.25pm, tailed by a marine police vessel.

"That's RM1 billion on water," a journalist at the scene said as others looked on in quiet awe. 

A Malaysian flag was seen hoisted on the Equanimity's mast.

As the yacht made its way to the docks, almost a dozen officials from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC), who were accompanied by police and navy officers, walked past the security barrier. 

Malaysiakini understands that the AGC officials will be inspecting the ship and overseeing its official seizure on behalf of the government. 

They are expected to take part later in discussions on the crew of the Equanimity, as the yacht will have to be maintained pending its eventual sale.

Members of the media were not allowed on board and could only watch from afar. 

Fugitive businessperson Low Taek Jho, who is widely known as Jho Low, is alleged to have purchased the yacht for US$250 million, using funds which US authorities claim was misappropriated from 1MDB.

The previous 1MDB management has denied its money was misappropriated, while Jho Low claims that allegations against him are politically motivated.

The Equanimity was first seized by Indonesian authorities on Feb 28 and has since been the subject of a legal battle between the US Department of Justice and a group of companies that own the yacht, on paper.

It is believed that Indonesia agreed to handover the Equanimity to Malaysia after a meeting between Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Jho Low, through his lawyers, has condemned the handover as a violation of Indonesian courts, which have yet to decide on the seizure of the vessel.

The DOJ has moved to suspend its attempt to seize the Equanimity in favour of letting Malaysia handle the matter.
