Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad's first day in Beijing began with a visit to the offices of Da Jiang Innovations (DJI), the well-known manufacturer of drones for commercial and creative aerial robotics.

The delegation arrived at DJI's Beijing headquarters at 9.51am, where Mahathir was received by company president Roger Luo and vice-president Fred Zhang.

The prime minister was also joined by Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok, International Trade Minister Darell Leiking and Agriculture Minister Salahuddin Ayub.

Bai Tian, the Chinese ambassador to Malaysia, accompanied the delegation as well.

The delegation was given a demonstration of DJI drones for use in agriculture, surveillance as well as search and rescue operations.

A demonstration of the DJI MG-1P series drone showed how it can be used for mapping terrain, or for spraying crops.

The use of another model, DJI Matrice 2000, meanwhile, showed how the drone can be used in search and rescue operations, including inspections in high-risk areas.

The delegation were then led on a tour of the office to showcase other DJI products, followed by a closed-door briefing by company executives.

The second leg of the Malaysian delegation's five-day official visit to China will be followed by dialogue sessions with business leaders and entrepreneurs from both countries.
