The Attorney-General's Chambers has appointed former Federal Court judge Gopal Sri Ram to head the prosecution team in a case against prominent lawyer Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

MACC arrested Shafee at KLIA at 6am this morning. He is expected to face money-laundering charges later today.

Shafee is currently the defence counsel for former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, who has been charged with money laundering and corruption.

Gopal's team comprise of Deputy Public Prosecutors Kamal Baharin Omar, Ahmad Akram Gharib and Afzainizam Abdul Aziz.

Shafee is represented by counsels Harvinder Singh, Chetan Jethwani, Datuk Hasnal Rezua Merican, Sarah Abishegan, Rahmat Hazlan and Muhammad Farhan Muhammad Shafee. Farhan is Shafee's son.
