No action will be taken against Padang Rengas MP Nazri Aziz, yet, for saying he will campaign for PKR president-elect Anwar Ibrahim in the Port Dickson by-election.

Saying this, Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa stressed that this is because Umno is yet to announce whether it will contest in the election.

If Umno decides to contest, a party member who has openly spoken about campaigning about a rival candidate can be considered as having broken party rules, he noted.

"We take Nazri's statement as his personal remark. It is not against party rules because the party has not made any decisions.

"If the party has decided, and fielded a candidate, and someone campaigns for a rival, that is wrong," he told reporters in Putra World Trade Centre today.

Annuar said that Umno will hold a meeting on the Port Dickson by-election on Sept 24.

In expressing support for Anwar last week, Nazri said it is what is best for Umno in order for the party to get back into government.

The Port Dickson by-election was triggered when its MP Danyal Balagopal Abdullah vacated his seat last week.

The move is meant to facilitate the start of Anwar's return to the federal government.

Thus far, none of the opposition parties has expressed interest in challenging Anwar for the seat.
