Lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo has sent letters to Chief Justice Richard Malanjum and de facto Law Minister VK Liew, to ask the outcome of the judicial probe of her late father Karpal Singh's sedition case at the Court of Appeal in 2016.

Sangeet said the letters were sent to Malanjum and Liew last week as there has been no word on the outcome of the probe, since it was announced on Aug 31.

"The public and I have the right to know the outcome of the probe since this was assured by Justice Malanjum four weeks ago.

"It is in the public interest to know if there is a purported interference. I have also lodged a police report over the matter and would also follow up with the police," she said.

On Aug 31, Justice Malanjum had said the judiciary was conducting an internal probe of the allegations of possible judicial impropriety with regards to Karpal's case and the matter of Court of Appeal judge Hamid Sultan Abu Backer being reprimanded by another judge.

Hamid had revealed, at an international law conference last month, that he was reprimanded for his judgement in the M Indira Gandhi case.

"The chief justice will take appropriate action once the results of the investigation are obtained," the statement issued by Justice Malanjum's office said.

Lawyer Mohd Haniff Khatri Abdulla had alleged that a senior judge interfered with the outcome of the Court of Appeal panel decision, resulting in Sangeet lodging a police report.

Liew had said that action will be taken once the judicial probe is completed.

Haniff who had already gave his statement to the police meanwhile had called for a special task force and a Royal Commission of Inquiry be held in light of the two revelations, in order to uphold the integrity of the judicial institution.
