Kan supports PD traders by buying pens from them

11.05pm: Lukut, Port Dickson - Independent candidate Kan Chee Yuen, whose campaign has been relatively quiet, spent today buying pens from several sundry shops in Lukut.

Describing this act as contributing to Port Dickson's economy, he said in a statement that he will distribute the pens to the public when he goes on his walkabouts.

"Even though I can buy pens from Kuala Lumpur at cheaper prices, I still chose to buy from sundry shops in Port Dickson," said Kan, who chose the pen as his logo in this by-election.

He said he also visited the Port Dickson police district headquarters today as a sign of respect.

Kan plans to continue buying up more pens from shops in Bagan Pinang tomorrow and will start his walkabouts on Saturday morning.

Zuraida and Mat Sabu show up for Anwar

11pm: Kampung Baru Si Rusa - PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin arrives at the ceramah in Kampung Baru Si Rusa to join the campaign for Anwar Ibrahim.

Zuraida is also the Housing and Local Government Minister.

She tells the crowd of about 150 that the Harapan government will take care of every state including those are currently held by the opposition because the coalition uphold sthe idea of federalism.

Also present is Amanah president Mohamad Sabu who receives a warm welcome from the Malay-majority crowd.

"We want to win a big majority on Oct 13! We hope that every party in Pakatan Harapan and also NGOs will help Anwar Ibrahim to win big in this by-election," added the defence minister.

There are about 7,000 military and police voters in Port Dickson.

Stevie denies he's sponsored by political big guns

7pm: D’Wharf Hotel and Residences - Independent candidate Stevie Chan strongly denies rumours that his candidacy in Port Dickson was sponsored by “certain parties”.

Chan, whose campaign has mainly consisted of walkabouts, says he has met many voters and received messages on social media questioning whether he was placed in this by-election to disrupt Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim.

“Many are saying that I am contesting because I was sponsored by Azmin (PKR deputy president Mohammed Azmin Ali) ... Tun M (Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad) ... some are saying UMNO and some are also saying MCA.

“I would like to firmly deny all these baseless accusations. Anyone can see that my campaign is voluntary and low-cost.

“If there are interested parties, they would not choose me as I am not an ideal candidate,” he said to reporters here.

He added that he is also not a conventional candidate as he is a “loose cannon” who does not have the necessary education background or a fixed income.

“I shoot off my head too much,” he quipped.

Anwar jogs barefoot on PD beach

3pm: Teluk Kemang - Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim gets in some exercise while on the campaign trail by going for a jog at the beach.

He takes to social media to post a shot of him jogging barefoot upon the white sands, dress in light pants, white collared-tee, sunglasses and a cap.

The post is accompanied by the caption: "(I) spent some time this morning jogging around Teluk Kemang beach.

"Despite a packed campaign schedule, health and stamina cannot be neglected. This is a refreshing start to the day."

Independent candidate signs Bersih pledge

1.45pm: Asam Pedas Kasih Ibu, Teluk Kemang - Independent candidate Stevie Chan signs a pledge for Bersih in support of free and fair elections.

“I think I am the first candidate to sign this,” he says after he signed the pledge.

The pledge contains six promises, that are:

  • Uphold the integrity and principles of a free and fair election during the campaign
  • Obey the Election Offences 1954 Act and related laws
  • To not use government resources, vehicles, staff, programmes, machinery, departments, agencies and other bodies related to the government
  • Ensure voters vote freely without intimidation, threats, disturbances and undue influence
  • Do not use racial and religious sentiments as a political tool
  • Defend the rights of every voter to take part in the election process

Chan says these promises are very “basic” and easy to fulfil. He also reveals that he walks an average of 8km a day during his campaigning.

“We spend a few hours at every location because it is not just 'touch and go',” he says.

Fish prices increased by 20pct - PAS candidate

10.20 am Pasar Besar Port Dickson - PAS candidate Nazari Mokhtar pays a visit to the same market to check foodstuff prices.

Speaking to the media later, he says some of the fish traders complain that the fish prices increased by 20 percent recently.

He, however, suspects the fluctuation of fish prices is due to the increase of diesel prices worldwide.

Nazari is accompanied by two PAS members who speak Hokkien and Tamil and chat with Indian and Chinese voters present.

Isa Samad campaigns at market he opened in '98

10am: Pasar Besar Port Dickson - Traders and market-goers greet Mohd Isa Abdul Samad warmly when he arrives here, the same market he officiated at the opening of in 1998 when he was Negeri Sembilan menteri besar.

He stops to chat with those at the market while his campaign team waits patiently.

A vegetable trader, V Saras, says she will support Isa, whom she said had contributed to the local community, such as the the modern market.

Most of the traders, however, say they have yet to make up their minds on whom to vote for.

A Chinese trader says she has yet to make a decision as the cost of living remains high.

Saiful, Anwar, PAS' Nazari campaign at the same spot

9.15am: Bagan Pinang - Now it's PAS candidate Mohd Nazari Mokhtar's turn to campaign at Pasar Tani Batu 4.

Nazari's campaign team waves party flags and hands out leaflets to hawkers, stall owners and residents during the walkabout

Although his visit coincides with Anwar's, the two candidates do not greet each other. At one point, the two even appear to be moving in each other's direction, only to veer off in opposite directions instead.

8.30am: Bagan Pinang - Both independent candidate Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and Pakatan Harapan candidate Anwar Ibrahim schedule their walkabout at Pasar Tani Batu 4, Bagan Pinang this morning. Like musical chairs, however, the candidates take turns with Saiful proceeding first as Anwar waits nearby.

Saiful starts at 7.30am, 30 minutes before Anwar is scheduled to start. The former smiles and shakes hands with hawkers and stall operators, as he is accompanied by a small campaign team of less than five people.

Saiful stays until 8.30am, as a black car with Anwar inside waits just a stone's throw away. Anwar's PKR campaign team of about 20 people wait outside by the car.

As soon as Saiful leaves, Anwar gets out and commences his walkabout. The locals greet him with wide smiles and eagerly take photos of him.
