DAP rep finds dead dogs in drain, alleges animal cruelty by Miri City Council

A DAP assemblyman has found dead dogs in a drain and holds the Miri City Council responsible for alleged animal cruelty.

Pujut assemblyman Ting Tiong Choon lodged a report at the Miri Central Police Station today over what he described as a shocking discovery of dead dogs in a drain at the Kuala Baram waste disposal site yesterday.

He said he visited the site, located near the truck weighing station, at 3 pm yesterday in response to a complaint by members of the public and found 32 dogs in a pound nearby.

A few dead dogs were found in a drain across from the pound, most probably disposed there over the past few days or weeks, he said to reporters after making the police report.

Ting said the disposal of the dog carcass in such a manner clearly contravened Chapter 32 of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999.

“I would like the police to investigate whether animal cruelty offences have been committed by the Miri City Council (MCC) or their representatives in view of the press statement by the Miri City mayor yesterday that 1,470 dogs have been caught since July 2017 by the MCC.

“I would like the police to investigate whether the 1,470 dogs have been disposed of in accordance with the law,” he stressed.
