PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has finally settled his defamation suit against Utusan Malaysia and TV3 today at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

This came after he settled a similar suit with former Permatang Pauh BN candidate Mazlan Ismail last month.

According to his lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo, the settlement included a sum of RM130,000 that was paid to Anwar, whereby RM20,000 was paid by Mazlan and the rest was paid by TV3 and Utusan.

The settlement was recorded today before Judicial Commissioner Faizah Jamaluddin.

Sangeet said TV3 has agreed to apologise on its flagship news programme Buletin Utama tonight while Utusan will do so before or on Nov 2 in its newspaper.

TV3 or Sistem Televisyen (M) Bhd was represented by lawyer Lim Qi Si while the Umno-owned daily was represented by Azhar Arman Ali.

It was reported on Sept 28, that Mazlan had apologised and retracted his statement that was made five years ago.

Mazlan, who in June resigned as the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chief operating officer, had suggested in a press conference five years ago that Anwar may have bribed the judiciary via the legal firm of the late Karpal Singh. 

Anwar filed the defamation suit in 2015, claiming that Mazlan, in his press conference on Aug 2, 2013, had uttered defamatory and malicious words implying that he was a corrupt person without ethics, had engaged in criminal activities, and was a dishonest and immoral person.
