The Defence Ministry has expressed concern that military personnel were allegedly involved in the PKR elections on Sunday, and stressed that it will take action if police investigations prove that this was indeed the case.

In a statement today, the ministry said that Malaysian Armed Forces Council rules barred military personnel from any political involvement.

The ministry said allegations that seven individuals arrested by the police yesterday on suspicion of participating in the elections have so far proven to be untrue.

Yesterday, PKR leadership council member Elizabeth Wong alleged that some 30 individuals were stopped from voting at the Petaling Jaya Utara PKR division elections on the grounds they carried military identity cards.

PKR is currently conducting divisional and national leadership elections throughout the country. The process began on Sept 22 and will end on Nov 10.

The process has not been a smooth one. There have been cases of violence, problems with the e-voting system, allegations of irregularities in the membership list, as well as ineligible voters showing up at polling stations.
