MACC to quiz Najib, Irwan

The MACC has summoned former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak and former Treasury secretary-general Irwan Serigar Abdullah for questioning this afternoon on 1MDB’s dealings with the Abu Dhabi wealth fund International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC).

It is learnt that the MACC investigation had made progress after a Najib intermediary was questioned by the commission, and Najib is expected to face six charges on the matter.

Najib said the government should go after IPIC for US$3.5 billion that is supposedly missing from Malaysian funds.

Penang hit by another landslide

A landslide hit Bukit Lama in Penang yesterday afternoon but no casualty was reported.

The incident took place just hours before rescuers wrapped up their search operation at the site of last week’s landslide at Bukit Kukus, after recovering nine bodies. One person, Bangladeshi national Mohamad Rahaz, 25, is still unaccounted for.

No need for Zahid to take leave

Umno secretary-general Annuar Musa said the standard operating procedure requiring senior party leaders to take leave does not apply now because it is no longer a ruling party.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is facing 45 charges of corruption and money laundering, appeared to be displeased when reporters asked if he should take leave.

Former Malaysian External Intelligence Organisation (MEIO) chief Hasanah Abdul Hamid is expected to be charged with criminal breach of trust.

Armed forces veteran group Patriot has urged the government to investigate alleged cover-ups of plagiarism and sexual harassment at the National Defence University (UPNM).
