Another landslide incident was reported along Bukit Lama road from Bayan Lepas to Balik Pulau near George Town, believed to be due to a two-hour downpour which began at 1pm today.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department director Saadon Moktar said they received a report on the incident at 5.45pm and an initial inspection found that the landslide was 80m long.

"Preliminary investigation by Fire and Rescue Department personnel revealed that no casualties were involved in the incident and monitoring was being conducted at the site," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

Meanwhile, Southwest District police chief A Anbalagan said only one lane on the route was opened and the public was advised to use an alternative route, Jalan Bukit Baru-Jalan Tun Sardon.

"Currently only one lane is open and heavy vehicles are not permitted to use the road for fear the landslide becomes worse and pose danger to other road users,” he said.

Last Friday, a landslide occurred at the site of the Bukit Kukus Twin Highway, Paya Terubong here, killing nine people and injuring four others.
