The Water, Land and Natural Resources Ministry has cancelled several projects of the previous government after finding out they were not offered through open tender, said minister Dr Xavier Jayakumar.

He said 95 percent of the contracts of the ministry under the previous government were offered via restricted tender and direct negotiated tender.

“It is for this reason that in Sabah, the ministry cancelled the contracts and initiated fresh open tenders,” he said at a press conference.

Jayakumar said several projects were cancelled but he did not provide the details.

On Budget 2019 to be tabled in Parliament on Friday, he said the ministry has sent in a list of development projects, including in Sabah.

“There is indeed an allocation for Sabah because of the need to develop much infrastructure in the state, especially in relation to water which is handled by this ministry,” he said.
