No agenda in accepting Umno MPs into Bersatu – Mukhriz

Bersatu does not have any hidden agenda following its decision to accept Umno members of Parliament into the party.

Bersatu deputy president Mukhriz Mahathir said he sees no clash of concept with the democracy practised in the country.

“No laws can prevent any members of Parliament from switching party if the person wishes to do so, we have to allow them to put in their applications,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby today.

He was commenting on whether Bersatu had a certain agenda as it had accepted Umno MPs into the party including Jeli member of Parliament Datuk Seri Mustapha Mohamed.

While conceding that the Bersatu decision received opposition from several quarters, he explained that the acceptance involved considerations and conditions which had to be met.

“(We) did not invite. We had issued statement before that if there are members of Parliament especially from Umno who are interested to join Pakatan Harapan through Bersatu, we would welcome if certain conditions were met,” he said.

Asked whether there were Umno MPs who had met him and expressed interest to join Bersatu, Mukhriz did not deny the matter but said he was not sure how many were really interested to join Bersatu.

He also explained that Bersatu did not considered several Umno major and senior leaders as they had already said they were not interested.

On the invitation of Padang Rengas MP Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz to Mukhriz and Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad to return to Umno as he described Bersatu as having no future, Mukhriz said it did not make sense.
