The Perak Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has the rights to summon former Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir to present himself at the public hearing on Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) issues as stated in the Standing Order of the Perak State Legislative Assembly, according to its chairperson Leong Cheok Keng.

“So, the Perak PAC has decided to summon Dr Zambry to present himself as the main witness at the hearing and that the hearing will be conducted in a transparent manner and can be attended by members of the media and also the public,” he told Bernama when contacted here today.

Leong said this in response to Perak opposition leader Saarani Mohamad’s remarks that Zambry would only present himself if the hearing scheduled for Nov 26 was conducted behind closed doors.

Saarani also claimed that the PAC did not have any executive power to act as a legislative body and hold a public hearing.

When asked about the action that could be taken if Zambry failed to present himself, Leong said the PAC had no power to take action, but could report it to the state assembly speaker.

“If a motion is tabled regarding the issue, the speaker could act by suspending him from attending the state assembly sitting,” he said.
