No MCA leader will be seen to be joining DAP because they only have one lawmaker left who is a party leader, said DAP's Anthony Loke today.
"The MCA does not have any MPs any more, only one left.
"So who can we take? They only have one. Don't tell me even its president will join us," Loke quipped when met by the media after an event in KL Sentral this morning.
The DAP national organising secretary said this when asked why DAP was not taking in MCA leaders, unlike Bersatu which was accepting former Umno leaders.
Since Pakatan Harapan won the 14th general election on May 9, the coalition of four major parties has seen former opposition members crossing to them in droves.
This was especially the case with Bersatu which had been accepting numerous former Umno leaders.
The latest crossover took place on Wednesday when Bagan Serai MP, Noor Azmi Ghazali, was accepted into Bersatu along with four former Umno senators.
Noor Azmi had won his parliamentary seat in GE14 on a BN ticket before announcing his exit from Umno just over a month later.
Two days earlier, Johor Bersatu chairperson Osman Sapian, who is also Johor menteri besar, confirmed that two former Umno assemblypersons - Rasman Ithnain (Sedili) and Rosleli Jahari (Johor Lama) - had crossed over to Bersatu.
They had quit Umno on May 12 and become independent state representatives prior to joining Bersatu.
The pair's acceptance into Bersatu, however, did not go down well with Johor PKR, which has since expressed its regret that Bersatu decided to accept the membership applications of the former Umno assemblypersons.
During a press conference on Wednesday, where Bersatu announced their acceptance of Noor Azmi and the four senators, Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad told reporters that they were ready to accept former Umno MPs as Harapan was short of lawmakers in Parliament to secure a two-thirds majority.
"When this happens, at times we are stuck in fulfilling our promises, as there are several promises which require a two-thirds (majority).
"With them joining Bersatu, we may be able to get the numbers needed," Mahathir said during the conference.
