The police said that they are still continuing to track down the former husband of M Indira Gandhi, despite numerous failed efforts in the past five years.

"We wish to stress that there is an ongoing effort to track down and detain K Pathmanathan @ Muhammad Riduan Abdullah since May 30, 2014, based on a warrant of committal issued by the High Court in Ipoh," said Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd.

"Although we had issued statements seeking the cooperation of the public and Riduan himself to contact the police, none of the efforts bore fruit," Wan Ahmad said.

"We ask again for the cooperation of members of the public who have any information on his whereabouts to come forward and assist us in resolving the case."

On Jan 14, inspector-general of police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said the police were still unable to trace Indira's fugitive ex-husband and Muslim convert Muhammad Riduan Abdullah, as well as her daughter Prasana Diksa.

Prasana was taken away almost 10 years ago by Riduan after he unilaterally converted Prasana and her two older siblings to Islam in 2009. She was just 11 months old at the time.

A lengthy legal battle ensued involving both the syariah and civil courts.

A decision by the Federal Court last year subsequently nullified the conversion of all three of Indira's children to Islam, ruling that permission was needed from both parents before the faith of a child could be changed.

However, there has been no trace of the child or Indira's estranged former spouse.

In an emotional open letter published last November, Indira pleaded for updates on her daughter from Fuzi and the new Pakatan Harapan government.
