Pakatan Harapan Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has defended the proposal by the coalition's candidate for Semenyih by-election, Muhammad Aiman Zainali, to build a district hospital in the state constituency.
The youth and sports minister said Aiman gave a solid argument for making the hospital his priority.
"He gave a good argument. With the increase of the population and many retired civil servants (residing in Semenyih), that's why it (a new hospital) is necessary," Syed Saddiq said.
Aiman had called for a district hospital to be built, but Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad was reported to have said in response that it would have been more practical for Aiman to ask for a clinic.
Dzulkefly said he was not aware of any plan by the government to build a hospital in Semenyih. He also said the candidate's request should be reasonable.
Syed Saddiq said: "He (Dzulkefly) said it is not in the plan now… but maybe this can be planned for the future, in the Malaysia Plan."
He brushed off criticism that Dzulkefly had sabotaged the candidate from his own coalition.
"No (sabotage), Dr Dzul is like a father. He is with us in a family, he is the nicest person (we know)," Syed Saddiq said.
