Ex-MIC man files MACC report against Samy Vellu

A report has been filed at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya today against former MIC president S Samy Vellu, accusing him of diverting a plot of land owned by a cooperative to a business associate.

The report was lodged by former Sungai Siput MIC division chief M Lokanathan. Samy Vellu was the MP for Sungai Siput until his defeat in the 2008 general election.

Lokanathan, who was sacked from MIC in 2006, claimed that the land was sold at less than 20 percent of its real value.

According to him, this is the third time he has lodged a report over the matter.

The report pertains to several deals in the Sungai Siput constituency including the sale of a 40.8ha plot of land, allegedly at below market price; the sale of another plot belonging to Koperasi Pekerja Jaya Bhd (KPJ) as well as the construction of a convention hall.

"The first acquisition of 101 acres of land from a cooperative in Sungai Siput in 2005.

“The cooperative had a condition where his land can only be sold to shareholders only. However, Samy Vellu is believed to have used his 'power' to buy 101 acres in the name of a Chinese trader at below market price.”

"The price of an acre in 2005 was RM68,000 but it was purchased for only RM11,000,” he claimed.

Lokanathan also alleged that several acres of land and buildings purchased under the name of a cooperative led by Samy Vellu are now under the name of the Chinese trader.

"How can this happen? Why are these lands given to Samy Vellu by the state government with the intention of benefiting the Indian community given to a Chinese?" he asked.

Also present was former PKR deputy secretary-general S Jenapala, who said he would lodge a police report against MACC if the agency does not investigate the case.
