A victory for Umno-PAS if PBS wins in Sandakan, says Kit Siang

DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said if PBS wins the Sandakan by-election, it will actually be a victory for Umno and PAS.

Expressing his concern over Sabah Umno chairperson Bung Moktar Radin’s claim that they will mobilise the 9,700 Umno members to vote for PBS, Lim warned that if this is true, PBS could have a good chance of winning.

“If Umno has 9,700 members and they all vote for PBS, then they will get 10,000 (votes from Malays).

“If they get another four to five thousand votes, then they will win with 15,000 votes.

“The people of Sandakan must decide. This is a very serious matter (because) if PBS wins, it's not a PBS win, it's an Umno and PAS victory,” Lim said at a press conference in Sandakan today.

He said it is possible that PBS may win by a margin of just 200 to 300 votes, which is why every vote counts.

“Supporters must come back to vote in Sandakan if they are outstation. We can’t take it for granted, for there is a danger we may lose,” Lim said.

On Monday night, Bung Moktar said at a ceramah that Sabah Umno would mobilise its 9,700 members to vote for PBS in the Sandakan by-election.

In the 14th general election, DAP’s Stephen Wong won the Sandakan parliamentary seat with a 10,098-vote majority.

The by-election was triggered after Stephen died on March 28.

PBS is fielding Linda Tsen against DAP’s Vivian Wong, who is Stephen’s youngest daughter, as well as three other independent candidates.
