Previously, Bersatu Jeram assemblyperson Mohd Shaid Rosli said Anwar taking over as the deputy prime minister was a necessary step for him to succeed Mahathir as prime minister.
This followed calls by the pro-Anwar group Otai Reformis, which urged Mahathir to step down so that the PKR president can take the top job.
Wan Azizah said the transition would take place eventually, but she did not provide a timeline.
She also reiterated her pledge that she would step down from her post as deputy prime minister when Anwar becomes the prime minister.
Mahathir has pledged to hand over the reins to Anwar, although no timeline has been set.
Mahathir and Anwar have both been dogged over the transition plan since Pakatan Harapan dethroned BN in May 2018.
