Law minister changes his tune on PM’s Question Time

PARLIAMENT | De facto Law Minister Liew Vui Keong announced today that the Prime Minister's Question Time (PMQT) will be implemented in the next session of the Dewan Rakyat, which begins in October.

This came barely a week after Liew shot down the PMQT idea on the basis that Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad attended the Dewan Rakyat frequently to answer questions.

“The prime minister has expressed his intention that he is interested to answer the questions,” Liew told the Dewan Rakyat during the question-and-answer session today.

The record of the previous one year showed that the premier often appeared at Parliament to answer questions, he said.

“It is under the process and we hope to have the PMQT during the next (Dewan Rakyat) session (in October),” he told Wong Chen (Harapan-Subang).

Previously, Liew had claimed that Mahathir often came to answer questions during the Ministers' Question Time (MQT) and also ordinary question time.

“So, for now, I think we don’t need a Prime Minister’s Question Time yet,” Liew had said.

Bersih had rapped the Harapan government for breaking its promise as the PMQT was part of its election manifesto.
