Police have arrested the driver involved in a hit-and-run incident at the Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered marathon last Sunday.
The 25-year-old woman also tested positive for drugs, Selangor Traffic Enforcement and Investigations Department chief Azman Shari’at told Malaysiakini.
He said police tracked the driver down on the same day of the incident and she was brought to the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters for questioning.
The unemployed woman, who is from Jinjang, had since been remanded for four days.
The jobless woman is being probed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving and the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
"She was detained at Jalan Taman Emas in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, and the Honda City she was driving was also seized. A car rental company has filed a report and notified us that it had rented the car to the suspect.
“Police found six pills wrapped in foil paper, believed to be Erimin-5, on her. She also tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine," Azman said, adding that the suspect has no criminal record.
However, in the past, she was involved in a road accident and has yet to settle the fine, he said.
In the incident, the woman crashed her rented Honda City through safety barriers and hit marathon runners along the Middle Ring Road, seriously injuring two people.
One participant sustained a leg injury, while another suffered a cracked hip bone.
