Sabah BN Youth chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain (photo) said the move will intrude into the secrecy of voting and can be a form of intimidation so that voters support Warisan in the by-election.
"We criticise EC's move which intends to record all 68 voting streams or centres," he told a press conference today.
"We want to remind the EC that voting is private and we don't want video cameras at voting centres," he said.
"Voters should not be threatened or intimidated to vote for the government because the government is watching them via cameras," added Abdul Aziz.
The government should help people regardless of their political inclination, he said.
Earlier today, EC said it will introduce the use of video cameras to improve the transparency and efficiency of the election process.
“The use of video cameras to record the situation at voting centres will make it easier for the EC to ensure the voting process is carried out following procedures that have been set," EC chairperson Azhar Azizan Harun said.
The Kimanis by-election was called after the apex court retained the lower court’s decision to nullify former MP Anifah Aman’s GE14 victory.
The by-election on Saturday will see a straight fight between Warisan’s Karim Bujang and BN’s Mohamad Alamin.
Early voting ended at noon today.
