Japan confirmed its first case of pneumonia linked to the coronavirus, a government official said yesterday.

Xinhua news agency reported that according to the official, a Chinese national tested positive for the virus in Japan.

The virus has affected dozens of people in China since the outbreak began last December in Wuhan, eastern China.

The Chinese national who tested positive is believed to have travelled to Wuhan, officials said.
