US President Donald Trump's successful bid to seek re-election in the upcoming November presidential polls will only strengthen Malaysia's voice against his proposed peace plan between Israel and Palestine.

Speaking to reporters, League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds conference organising committee chief Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh said Malaysia's ongoing support for plights of the Palestinians is based on universal values which should be shared by all lawmakers.

"I think there is no difference whether Trump or others (US presidents).

"We hold on to the principle that no one should be oppressed, no one should be

attacked... they should have the freedom to live in their own country," said Syed

Ibrahim, who is also Ledang MP.

"They (Palestinians) were occupied, conquered, their lands were seized... so for me our opposition (against the acts) is not limited to just Trump or any other individual," he said.

The peace proposal announced by Trump on Jan 28 would give Israel most of what it has sought during the seven decades of conflict since 1948, including the disputed holy city of Jerusalem and nearly all of the occupied land on which it has built settlements.

Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday lambasted the Palestinian peace deal as a one-sided affair hatched by the US and Israel without any consultation with the Palestinians.

Syed Ibrahim earlier read out nine resolutions passed by delegates who attended the two-day conference in Kuala Lumpur, highlighting both their support for Palestinians and condemnation of the Zionist regime.

At present, he said the League of Parliamentarians for Al-Quds have garnered support of 700 individual members of parliament from 70 countries around the world.

Now in its third year, he said Malaysia's role as host also marked its first gathering

outside of the Middle East, with hope of reaching out to more lawmakers around the Asian region.

Deputy Prime Minister Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail delivered the closing speech today while her husband, PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, was scheduled to address delegates at a farewell dinner tonight.
