Senior citizen with heart problem, hypertension is latest Covid-19 victim

According to an internal circular by HCTM director Dr Hanafiah Harunarashid, which was sighted by Malaysiakini, the 70-year-old victim succumbed to the illness last night.

According to an internal circular by HCTM director Dr Hanafiah Harunarashid, which was sighted by Malaysiakini, the 70-year-old victim succumbed to the illness last night.
The man was admitted on March 18 after developing a cough and fever.
"The patient had a history of heart problem and hypertension. He was put on a ventilator after his condition worsened,” stated the circular.
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah confirmed the death in an official announcement posted on his Facebook page later.
He said the victim was the 1,070th person to be tested positive with Covid-19 in the country and had a history of travel to Indonesia last month.
"The Health Ministry was informed that the deceased was the chairperson of a surau in his neighbourhood," he added.
As of 5pm yesterday, the ministry recorded a total of 1,306 positive cases in the country and 10 deaths.
In a statement yesterday, Noor Hisham stated that 46 Covid-19 patients were receiving treatment in Intensive Care Units, including 22 on ventilators.
The biggest cluster that contributed to the positive cases came from a tabligh gathering at the Sri Petaling Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, which was held from Feb 27 to March 1.
According to statistics provided by the authorities, 820 cases came from this cluster.
Eight of the Covid-19 patients who died also came from the cluster, including a mother and daughter in Sarawak.
According to statistics tracker website Worldodometer, the total number of positive cases globally has increased to 338,724 so far, with 14,687 deaths.
