Updated 4.08pm: CORONAVIRUS | The Housing and Local Government Ministry will disinfect high-risk public spaces and public housing (PPR) units as part of the government’s measures against the Covid-19 outbreak.
Defence Minister Ismail Sabri (photo) announced today that the “Nyah Cemar” initiative will roll out in full force on March 30 (Monday).
“The ministry will focus on high-risk areas before going to PPR units one-by-one for the disinfection procedure,” he said in a broadcast press conference.
He said the authorities had previously disinfected 11 wet markets and hot spot Sri Petaling where the tabligh cluster of cases stemmed from - both which are in Kuala Lumpur.
Two villages in Kluang, Johor, with a high number of Covid-19 cases, have also been disinfected.
He said the two villages were the same that saw an enhanced movement control order enforced in the area.
He explained the enhanced measure for the two villages were undertaken due to a spike in Covid-19 cases there.
"There were 86 positive cases in the area and of this, 74 were from the two villages.
"Police and military personnel were deployed to guard the entrances and no one was allowed in nor any villagers allowed out.
"All shops were closed and Rela personnel were sent to deliver food from house-to-house," he said.
