No Ramadan, Gawai bazaars in S'wak this year: Abang Johari
CORONAVIRUS | Sarawak Chief Minister Abang Johari Openg announced that there will be no Ramadan and Gawai bazaars held this year in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“The state government has made the decision not to allow Ramadan bazaars.
“We will not have Ramadan bazaars this year as well as Gawai bazaars, because these two (events) are held one after another,” he told a press conference in Miri, according to a report in The Borneo Post....

Abang Johari told the press that such steps are critical in ensuring the safety of Sarawakians.
As an alternative, he suggested that traders look into e-commerce methods to sell their products.
“I am confident that e-bazaars will meet the demand from customers during Ramadan and Gawai," he said.
“I have encouraged the usage of technology and here in Miri we have a place called Tegas (Digital Innovation Hub) where they can learn how to use technology for online sales,” he added.
The chief minister also suggested that those who are not comfortable with using technology learn from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the state's big cities like Miri and Kuching.
