Bersih, Engage aim to raise RM100,000 more for #MakanKongsi project
After exceeding its initial target to raise RM300,000 for vulnerable communities, Bersih and Engage have announced an additional collection of RM100,000 under phase three of the movement control order (MCO) period.
As of today, the groups said they had raised RM363,067 for the #MakanKongsi initiative to help feed vulnerable communities during the first and second phases of the MCO.

As of today, the groups said they had raised RM363,067 for the #MakanKongsi initiative to help feed vulnerable communities during the first and second phases of the MCO.
"We are extremely grateful and would like to express our sincere gratitude to the 1,214 donors who have been very generous to help ease the burdens of those who are less fortunate during the MCO period," they said in a statement.
With an aim to provide two meals a day during the MCO period, the groups said the amount raised so far had benefitted almost 6,000 people from their target communities.
"Through 26 NGO partners and individuals, we had provided food vouchers, cash aids and essential provisions to individuals, families and villages that are at high risk of starvation.
"These partner NGOs serve the urban poor, Orang Asli/Asal, migrant workers, refugees, single mothers, OKU and other vulnerable groups," they said.
Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin's recent announcement on extension of the MCO from April 14 to April 28, however, had created a need to raise additional funds for the #MakanKongsi initiative.
"Many of these same communities would still be at risk as many of them are daily wage earners who depend on small-medium enterprises for work.
"Starvation is a reality for them as they will not have any income until the MCO is lifted," said the groups.
In view of this, Bersih and Engage said the #MakanKongsi initiative aims to raise another RM100,000 to continue with its ongoing food distribution work.
"We will continue to work with credible NGO partners and individuals who are very committed in ensuring that no one goes hungry during this period.
"Every cent that you donate to us will be utilised to provide meals for these communities and none will be utilised to cover administrative or logistical costs," they stressed.
