CORONAVIRUS | Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob today announced the end of most enhanced movement control orders (MCO) around the country but said some areas in Selayang will be extended.

There were two enhanced MCO orders in Selayang, namely in Selayang Baru and Bandar Baru Utara. The updated order is as follow:

Pusat Bandar Utara enhanced MCO:

  • Parcel A: Jalan 6/3A, Pusat Bandar Utara, Kuala Lumpur (lifted)
  • Parcel B: Jalan 6/3A and 9/3A, Pusat Bandar Utara, Kuala Lumpur (lifted)
  • Parcel C: Jalan 2/3A, Pusat Bandar Utara, Kuala Lumpur (extended)
  • Parcel D: Jalan 2/3A, Pusat Bandar Utara, Kuala Lumpur (extended)
  • Parcel E1: Taman Sri Murni Fasa 2, Jalan 1/2D, Kuala Lumpur (extended)
  • Parcel E2: Taman Sri Murni Fasa 1, Jalan 1/2D, Kuala Lumpur (extended)
  • Parcel E3: Taman Sri Murni Fasa 3, Jalan 1/2B, Kuala Lumpur (extended)
  • Parcel F: Taman Batu View and Taman Batu Hampar, Kuala Lumpur (extended)

Selayang Baru enhanced MCO:

  • Zone A: Jalan Indah 3 and Jalan Indah 5A, Selayang Indah, Gombak, Selangor (lifted)
  • Zone B: Jalan Indah 21, Lembah Indah, Selayang Baru, Gombak, Selangor (lifted)
  • Zone C: Jalan Besar Selayang Baru, Jalan 1 and Jalan Indah 21, Selayang Baru, Gombak, Selangor (extended)
  • Zone D: Jalan 3, 5, 7 and 9, Selayang Baru, Gombak, Selangor (extended)
  • Zone E: Jalan 2, 4, 6 and 8, Selayang Baru, Gombak, Selangor (extended)
  • Zone F: Block A, B and C, Selayang Makmur, Gombak, Selangor (extended)

Ismail (photo), who is the senior minister overseeing the MCO, said the extension will be until May 12.

He also announced all remaining enhanced MCO orders have been or will be lifted by tomorrow.

Ismail said the enhanced MCO for Menara City One, Selangor Mansion, Malayan Mansion and the area surrounding Masjid India were lifted yesterday.

He added the enhanced MCO order on the Maahad Tahfiz An-Nabawiyyah, a religious school in Sungai Lui, Hulu Langat, will be lifted tomorrow. 

Ismail, in his daily briefing, again defended the government's decision to round up undocumented migrants within the enhanced MCO areas.

He said the raids were in view of lifting the enhanced MCOs.

"That was why I said when the enhanced MCO ends, there is nowhere for the undocumented migrants to go. That is (also) why we are housing them at immigration depots," Ismail told the press conference in Putrajaya.

Ahead of the lifting of the enhanced MCO, the government had arrested hundreds of undocumented migrants in the locked-down areas.

The move had courted criticism from human rights groups which expressed concern that undocumented migrants will now fear coming forward to get tested for Covid-19, which may complicate efforts to combat the pandemic.

The country has been until a partial lockdown since March 18 in a bid to contain the spread of Covid-19.

The MCO is expected to end on May 12 but the government decided to reopen most of the economy today.

After more than a month under a partial lockdown, the Health Ministry has brought the number of infections to manageable levels.

As of yesterday, Malaysia recorded 6,298 Covid-19 cases with 105 deaths.

However, 4,413 people have recovered and 1,780 are still in treatment.
