Malaysians returning from abroad will have to bear 50 percent of the RM150 per day quarantine cost starting June 1.

Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all returnees will have to sign agreements to pay the necessary costs before they can make the journey home.
He said the agreements will be available at Malaysian foreign missions, and airlines must ensure that all passengers have a signed agreement on them before allowing passengers to board.
The agreements, he said, are to avoid situations such as when the foreign spouses of Malaysians refuse to pay for the cost of their quarantine.
Currently, the RM150 per day cost is for those coming in from abroad and undergoing a 14-day quarantine in a hotel room.
For Malaysians, the remaining RM75 will be paid for by the government, Ismail said.
Meanwhile, on approval for Malaysia My 2nd Home (MM2H) visa-holders to return, the senior minister said this was not automatic.
He said once an application is made, the government will review whether they can be allowed to return.
On a separate matter, Ismail said that undocumented migrants being detained at immigration depots are not allowed visitors.
"This includes for international NGOs, whether it is the Red Crescent, Red Cross, Amnesty International or others. This is to ensure the safety of officers at the depot," he said.
He said this when asked about Myanmar nationals who tested positive for Covid-19 after being deported.
"Regarding the Myanmar nationals, they were found to be positive when they returned to their home country. They returned and tested positive there," he said.
Ismail said those detained in immigration depots here, however, are not Covid-19 positive.
