NSC releases new protocols just hours before conditional MCO ends
With the new phase of the movement control order (MCO) to begin within hours, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari rued that the state government has yet to receive new social distancing protocols for implementation.

The National Security Council (NSC) has released new social distancing protocols just hours before the movement control order (MCO) enters a new phase at the stroke of midnight.
On Twitter and Telegram, the NSC posted 10 sets of standard operating procedures (SOPs) covering areas such as places of worship and funerals, schools including preschools and post-secondary education, and the defence sector.
These came as a series of posts published between 9.30pm and 10.04pm on Telegram, and slightly later on Twitter.
As of the time of writing, the NSC’s website has yet to be updated with the latest guidelines.
Some protocols appear to be missing from the batch of newly released documents, such as those concerning the reopening of barbershops and night markets.
Previously, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin had announced the recovery MCO on June 7, which will come into effect at midnight tonight as the conditional MCO order expires.
Among others, Malaysians will be allowed to travel freely between state borders once again under the recovery MCO.
Many businesses will be allowed to reopen, subject to strict conditions.
These include barbers, hair salons, open-air markets, morning markets, night markets, farmers' markets, bazaars, food courts, hawker stalls, food trucks and self-service laundries.
Meetings, workshops, and recreational activities including domestic tourism will also be permitted.
Earlier today, Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari (photo) rued that the state government had yet to receive new social distancing protocols for implementation.
“According to the prime minister’s latest announcement, the recovery MCO begins tomorrow with several sectors reopening such as barbers, hair salons, and non-contact sports with strict SOPs.
“Up to 7.23pm, we have yet to receive details of the SOPs from the federal government. Now what?” he said on Twitter.
Previously, it was reported that Amirudin would hold a meeting with all local authorities in the state today and tomorrow.
This is to discuss the operational aspects of businesses that would soon reopen and ensure all parties will comply with the guidelines.
In light of the Telegram posts, Amirudin said the state government will discuss the protocols tomorrow.
“Alhamdulillah, I’ve received the SOPs via the NSC’s official Telegram channel at 9.30pm.
“So, tomorrow we will meet again to implement the SOPs at the local government level,” he said.
