LETTER | An open letter to the 8th prime minister of Malaysia

LETTER | Honourable Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, during the campaign period of the 14th general election you had thundered the very concerns that swamped the hearts and minds of deeply concerned and patriotic citizens.

Among the many things you said, here is a list of what gave voters tremendous hope for the need to save our nation:

That you are not afraid to state publicly that Malaysia is a kleptocratic nation.

And by this, you explained that Malaysia is a nation that is led by a “pencuri, perompak” (thief).

You spelt out with thundering conviction that US$681 million “masuk dalam akaun Najib Razak” (went into the accounts of Najib Razak).

And you questioned in public why the police have not investigated.

You pointed out that the then retiring IGP said “masih dalam siasatan” (still under investigation), and the incoming IGP said “dah selesai siasatan” (investigation has been completed).

You even questioned the MACC, “kenapa tak ambil tindahkan?” (why didn’t you take action).

And you went on to state that the previous attorney-general (Abdul Gani Patail) said that there is a case and money went into the account of Najib.

And that the succeeding AG said otherwise - that there is no case.

And you claimed that the incoming AG did not take action because he was scared.

And you urged voters to use their power to vote out the Barisan Nasional political party.

As you rightly pointed out that this is a nation of the people, many people now wish to exercise that right as guaranteed under the nation’s sacrosanct Federal Constitution.

People are chattering everywhere these past 100 days since you took over the seat of the prime minister through a coup.

Among the many things overflowing in the social media scape are questions of doubt and suspicion.

Why are you now in cohorts with the very political party that you convinced us we should dethrone?

Why did you throw out the very political coalition Pakatan Harapan that you appealed to us to vote in to form the new government of choice?

And now with news of the 46 charges of corruption involving a former chief minister that has been thrown out by the court, people are asking what have you got to say as the prime minister of the nation of people who gave you the very ticket to be in politics under the Harapan flagship?

Indeed, while we reel under the ravages of the still unconquered Covid-19 pandemic, the recent political developments are giving concerned and patriotic citizens grave feelings of destitute for our beloved nation’s future.

They are asking what happened to all that Muhiyuddin said before the 14th general election?

Unless and until the honourable prime minister can come out in the open and address all these deep-seated concerns with courage and conviction, justice and honesty, our nation will continue to be gripped in great pain.
