Perikatan Nasional Backbencher’s Club chairperson Shahidan Kassim clarified that he has no issues with the federal government led by Muhyiddin Yassin.

He said his lament on his Facebook account regarding neglect of party duties and “fraying friendships” only refers to Perlis Umno’s internal problems.

“The post is (regarding) my party, in the state only,” the Arau MP told Malaysiakini today.

However, he declined to elaborate on the issue.

Since the last general election, Perlis Umno had clashed over the selection of the state’s menteri besar.

Shahidan had lobbied for his younger brother, the Tambun Tulang assemblyperson Ismail Kassim, for the post.

However, the palace picked Bintong assemblyperson Azlan Man instead.

Ismail defected to Bersatu following the incident but rejoined Umno after Perikatan Nasional took power.

Meanwhile, Shahidan said he has deleted his Facebook post because it has been misconstrued to mean that he has issues with the party’s central leadership.

“It is not correct,” he said.

He said the Bersatu supreme council member A Kadir Jasin’s interpretation of his post is also wrong.

He said he is comfortable with his current position.

“I already have a post, as a backbencher’s club chairperson. That’s okay. Everyone is getting a GLC appointment but I get to be the backbencher’s club chairperson.

“I don’t mind although it is an unpaid position. I’m still holding a prestigious position,” he said.

Kadir has previously said that Shahidan was disappointed because he was not appointed to a federal post despite his status as a senior politician.
