Students, teachers get 20 pct off on domestic flights with M'sia Airlines

Students and teachers can now enjoy a 20 percent discount off domestic airfares with Malaysia Airlines when schools reopen, announced Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Discounts were also extended to lecturers and students of higher learning institutions, he said. This comes after a special ministers' meeting in which cheaper flights were discussed to help the education sector reopen post-Covid-19.
"Some teachers (on the peninsula) have to travel back to schools in Sabah and Sarawak (but) the airfares are expensive," Ismail said.
He added that the Malaysia Aviation Commission then met with Malaysia Airlines Berhad to discuss how the burden of teachers can be reduced.
"The teachers and lecturers will be given a 20 percent discount when they book their tickets between July 9 and Aug 10 for flights between July 10 and Nov 30," he said.
Ismail said a promo code will be provided by both the Education Ministry and Higher Education Ministry for the cheaper flights.
"As for students, a 20 percent discount will be given to them after they become a member of the MH Explorer programme," he said.
"The students will enjoy (discounted airfares) until Nov 30 or until their membership expires according to the conditions of the MH Explorer membership," he said.
Ismail also called on other carriers to offer cheaper flights for students and teachers as well.
The second phase of reopening schools nationwide is set from July 15 to July 22.
The first phase of school reopenings took place on June 24 for students who will sit for their public examinations this year, namely the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM), Malaysian Vocational Certificate (SVM), Malaysian Higher School Certificate (STPM), Malaysian Higher Religious Certificate (STAM), and equivalent international school examinations.
