Covid-19: New death reported, first since June 11

CORONAVIRUS | There has been one new Covid-19 death, the first in the country since June 11. This brings the total death toll for the deadly virus in the country to 122.

The latest casualty, "Patient 8,702", was a 72-year-old man from Sarawak who died yesterday. He was first warded on July 9.

Meanwhile, there were eight new cases of Covid-19, including four local transmissions, said Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

There were also four recoveries. Total active cases were at 67, up from 64 yesterday.

Overall, there have been 8,704 cases of Covid-19 in the country.

Of the local transmissions reported over the past 24 hours, one was the Sarawak man who died while the other was a Malaysian in Sabah who tested positive while being screened for a hospital referral.

Two others were non-Malaysians under immigration detention who tested positive on a re-test before they were to be deported.

Meanwhile, the number of cases under intensive care is now three, with two of them requiring ventilators.
