Pua: Once 'hero' for calling out 1MDB, Muhyiddin now avoids queries

PARLIAMENT | DAP MP Tony Pua accused Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin of hiding behind the excuse of “sub-judice” to clamp down on queries pertaining to 1MDB.
Pua (above) pointed out that this was the same Muhyiddin who in 2015 was dropped by former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak as deputy premier and booted from Umno a year later for speaking out against the sovereign wealth fund.
The Damansara MP said this after his two questions, submitted to Parliament on 1MDB, were rejected on the grounds of ongoing criminal trials related to the fund.
The letter on the rejection decision signed by Dewan Rakyat secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin was also uploaded by Pua onto social media. Even though rejected by the speaker’s office, Pua once more criticised Muhyiddin for the decision.
"Muhyiddin was a 'hero' whacking Najib for the RM50 billion 1MDB scandal," Pua said on Facebook today.
"But now, when asked about what is the position of the attorney-general in the case of the Najib-1MDB corruption trial, Muhyiddin pleads ‘sub-judice’.
“Wah, haven't heard that used in Parliament since Najib era when clamping down 1MDB queries.
“Dear PM, I didn't ask on the merits of the case, which might involve 'sub-judice'. I asked the position of the (new) AG in the case. How can the position of the AG be 'sub-judice'?” he asked.
Pua claimed that he wanted to ask his question following the "discharge not amounting to an acquittal" which was accorded to Najib’s stepson, Hollywood movie producer Riza Abdul Aziz, in May for money laundering involving US$248 million (RM1.08 billion) linked to 1MDB funds.
He yesterday deemed the dismissal of his question by the speaker’s office as a missed opportunity for Muhyiddin to put to rest questions over his commitment to combat graft.
