Umno Youth young lawyers secretariat head Nik Saiful Adli Burhan has urged party supporters to respect the courts and the judicial system.
He urged supporters not to utter words which could later be held against them for contempt of court.
Authors of messages on social media platforms and messaging systems such as WhatsApp can be held in contempt, warned Nik Saiful.
"Everything that has happened since the charges were laid is a process for Najib to seek justice. We supporters should not (act in contempt) and land ourselves in jail," he said.
Yesterday, the Kuala Lumpur High Court found Najib guilty of pocketing RM42 million from state-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd.
He was handed an RM210 million fine and a jail term which amounted to 72 years in total. He will only have to serve 12 years as the jail terms were to run concurrently.
Following this, some critics attempted to discredit judge Mohd Nazlan Mohd Ghazali, among others, by accusing him of having family ties with Najib's arch-nemesis Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
This claim has been disputed by Mahathir's family members.
Meanwhile, Nik Saiful explained that Najib still has at least two avenues to appeal against the decision.
"During the appeal stage, all the facts raised during the High Court proceeding will be scrutinised.
"What will be contested is the point of law. Any witnesses which the prosecution failed to call cannot be used as evidence," he said.
