MACC nabs ex-minister's aide over RM3.7m bribe
A former minister's private secretary and his fiance were arrested by the MACC yesterday over a corruption case involving RM89 million tourism project.
According to sources, the 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody when he presented himself at the anti-graft agency's headquarters in Putrajaya at 5.30pm.
His fiance, aged 28, was detained later at 10pm when she went there to give her statement...
A former minister's aide and his fiance were arrested by the MACC yesterday over a corruption case involving an RM89 million tourism project.
According to sources, the 29-year-old suspect was taken into custody when he presented himself at the anti-graft agency's headquarters in Putrajaya at 5.30 pm.
His fiance, aged 28, was also detained later at 10 pm when she went there to give her statement.
"Both of them had surrendered to the MACC after having been missing since June 10.
"They were previously being hunted by the MACC over suspicion of involvement in graft involving monies from a company which was awarded a project to do promotional advertisements for the Tourism Ministry," said a source close to the case.
Both are being remanded until Aug 19 to facilitate investigation under Section 17 of the MACC Act which covers the offence of giving or accepting gratification by an agent.
Sources said the male suspect was expected to be taken to the Special Corruption Court in Kuala Lumpur this Wednesday to face criminal charges related to the case.
It is learned that the couple's arrests are linked to the case of a company owner, who was charged in July for submitting false claims in order to get a tender worth RM89 million from the ministry.
MACC deputy chief commissioner Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya, when contacted, confirmed the arrests.
