Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is scheduled to make a special address at 2.30pm today.
According to a poster sent out by his office, it will be a "Kita prihatin" (We care) address.
Muhyiddin's televised address will come after PKR president Anwar Ibrahim holds his press conference to make an "important announcement" at noon.
According to a source close to the Port Dickson MP, Anwar has clinched a comfortable majority in Parliament.
It is likely that Muhyiddin's address is related to the Covid-19 situation. However, he may have to change course if Anwar pulls off a political counter-coup.
Science and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin tweeted that the prime minister's address has to do with "ensuring a robust and sustained economic recovery."
Muhyiddin was sworn in as prime minister in March after a majority of Bersatu MPs, together with former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's faction, defected from Pakatan Harapan to ally themselves with Umno, PAS and GPS.
At present, his Perikatan Nasional government commands 113 MPs, a slim majority of just two seats.
However, speculation is now rife that GPS - which has 18 Sarawak seats - will be defecting to support Anwar.
Some believe that the PKR president may have also secured support from some Umno lawmakers.
