Amid Perak upheaval, Tourism Ministry's allocations get passed

PARLIAMENT | Amid ongoing uncertainties over Perikatan Nasional's status due to the political upheaval in Perak, the government has successfully passed another budget allocation in the Dewan Rakyat.
Allocations for the Tourism Ministry under the Supply (Budget) Bill 2021 were passed via bloc vote at the committee stage by 109 MPs, with 96 voting against, and 15 absent.
This is the fifteenth ministry allocation passed by the government so far, either via a voice vote or bloc vote.
Tourism Minister Nancy Shukri earlier delivered her winding-up speech after debates for allocations amounting to RM1.1 billion.
The Dewan Rakyat also passed two other ministries' allocations via voice votes - RM2.6 billion for the Women, Family, and Community Development Ministry, as well as RM3.5 billion for the Environment and Water Ministry.
Women, Family, and Community Development Minister Rina Harun earlier faced heated queries from Pakatan Harapan MPs debating the allocation and she was later panned for unsatisfactory answers in her winding-up speech.
Meanwhile, Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man addressed the issue of allocations related to raw water supply and measures to prevent pollution which had caused numerous water supply disruptions, particularly in Selangor.
Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's last-minute instruction against voting down the Supply Bill before it entered the current committee stage debates have seen Harapan MPs voting against the budget for each individual ministry.
At the same time, a successful confidence motion in the Perak state assembly to bring down Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu as the state's menteri besar had also amplified calls for a similar move to be made against Muhyiddin in this current Parliament session which is ending Dec 17.
