Annuar: Umno MPs who support Anwar need to come clean

MPs in BN and Umno who are named in reports as backing PKR President Anwar Ibrahim for prime minister should be honest and come forward, said BN secretary-general Annuar Musa.

He said those mentioned in media reports should also take steps to lodge a police report if the rumours are slanderous.

"If it is slander, we must not allow it and they must make a police report and also report it to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

"If the claims are correct, these individuals need to be honest. Do not let it be a situation where the party is making one decision, but these individuals are making another decision," he said at a press conference after holding a meeting with bloggers in Kota Bharu, today.

Annuar, who is also the Ketereh MP, said this when asking to comment on reports that there are still individuals Umno MPs who back Anwar in forming a new government.

Earlier, Astro Awani reported a PKR source as saying that 10 MPs, including Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, were backing Anwar.

However, the same portal later quoted another source as denying the first report, while PKR Communications director Fahmi Fadzil slammed it as a 'fishing expedition'.

Meanwhile, Annuar stressed that the party's official position until now has not shifted from the decision of 'no Anwar, no DAP.

"As party members, we have to follow the party's policy. The party's decision is the voice of the people, whereas the decision of the individual is our voice alone," he said.

Annuar said the threat of individuals going against the party's stance is always there given the difference between the wafer-thin majority of the government.

"I would like to emphasise that at a time when the people are in trouble (facing the Covid-19 pandemic), we should not be divided but join forces to solve problems," he said.
