COVID-19 | A factory that produces medical catheters and urinary products in Pontian, Johor became the latest manufacturing plant to face a Covid-19 outbreak among its workers.
It is learned that several workers at the Uro Technology Sdn Bhd factory were linked to the Batu 39 cluster, which was announced by the Health Ministry yesterday.
The cluster has so far recorded 28 positive cases. Covid-19 screening concerning this cluster has seen a total of 152 individuals tested for the coronavirus as of noon yesterday.
A spokesperson for Karex Berhad, which is the parent company for Uro Technology, confirmed that there was an outbreak involving factory workers.
However, the spokesperson, who declined to be named, said not all 28 individuals found positive in the cluster are Uro Technology employees.
"We are still gathering data as to how many workers are affected. The cases were first detected during a screening activity that the company does from time to time on all workers.
"Contact tracing is ongoing and we expect to issue an official statement by today," he told Malaysiakini this morning.
The factory has been temporarily closed for sanitisation, he added.
Malaysiakini was informed that several foreign workers travelled from Pontian to Kuala Lumpur recently to renew their passports.
It was after they returned that the workers participated in the company's Covid-19 screening, which detected positive cases among them.
