The appointment of women to lead the Sabah Attorney-General’s Chambers and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) has proven that the state government recognises and respects the role and leadership of women, said Chief Minister Hajiji Noor.
He said it was part of the Sabah government's efforts to ensure that the participation of women, particularly officers with extensive experience in their departments or organisations, was given due recognition.
“I hope the department or organisation that they lead will be more excellent and competitive and will progress in line with the 'Sabah Maju Jaya (Let Sabah Prosper)' slogan,” he said at the presentation ceremony of the appointment letters to the new state attorney-general and Kota Kinabalu mayor at the State Administrative Centre today.
Sabah Deputy Attorney-General Nor Asiah Mohd Yusof and DBKK director-general Noorliza Awang Alip received their appointment letters as the new Sabah attorney-general and Kota Kinabalu mayor respectively, both effective in January.
Also present at the ceremony were Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Abidin Madingkir; State Secretary Safar Untong and State Public Service Department director Datu Rosmadi Datu Sulai.
Meanwhile, Nor Asiah who started her career in 1995, expressed appreciation and gratitude to the state government for the trust given to her to lead the State Attorney-General's Chambers.
“A lot needs to be done in this department such as updating and reviewing existing laws including the law on strata title,” she said.
Echoing Noor Asiah’s sentiment, Noorliza said her appointment as the Kota Kinabalu Mayor was an appreciation from the state government which would be an encouragement for other women, particularly Sabah civil servants.
Noorliza, who began her career at DBKK as an assistant secretary in 1996, is the first woman to be appointed the city mayor.
