The Johor branch of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) is reviewing an action taken against a couple in Taman Johor Jaya in Johor Bahru, who were compounded for not wearing a face mask while in their shop, last Sunday.
In a statement today, it said that it had obtained the report on the compound issuance.
“We take note of the issuance of two compounds by Johor KPDNHEP enforcement officers against the trader and his wife who did not wear a face mask even though it is claimed that there were no customers on the premises.
“If there is a basis that the compounds should not have been issued, the Johor KPDNHEP will refer the matter to the Health Ministry and recommend a reconsideration of the compounds,” it added.
It said the shop owners will be contacted to update them on the developments of the matter.
It was reported that a 52-year-old trader and his wife aged 48, were slapped with an RM1,000 compound each for not wearing a face mask even though there were no customers inside their shop at the time.
According to the man, he was standing at the front counter and had taken off his face mask since there were no shoppers, while his wife was having tea in the shop’s backroom.
