COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,576 new Covid-19 cases in the country as well as two new deaths attributed to the disease.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of cases in the country with 407 cases which is also a record high for the state.

Prior to this, the highest number of cases recorded in the state was 361 cases on March 4.

A large portion of the Sarawak cases is attributed to the Semuja Immigration Depot cluster that was first detected in Serian yesterday. There were 146 new cases in the cluster today.

In addition, two new clusters involving immigration detention facilities were detected in Penang and in Kuala Lumpur.

Overall, clusters involving detention facilities accounted for 298 (18.9 percent) of today's national figures.

Meanwhile, Selangor recorded the second-most number of cases at 348 followed by Penang at 182.

Malaysia's cumulative total of Covid-19 cases has now reached 330,042.

  • Active cases: 14,360
  • Patients in ICUs: 151
  • Intubated: 57

Deaths

Both deaths reported today involved Malaysian citizens – one in Kuala Lumpur, and the other in Sarawak.

The 55-year-old deceased male in Sarawak had no history of chronic illness.

The deaths bring Malaysia's Covid-19 death toll to 1,225.

Details of the victims are on Malaysiakini's Covid-19 tracker page.

The Health Ministry is currently tracking 427 active clusters including 64 that recorded new cases today.
