Johor Pakatan Harapan has voiced support for the suggestion by state ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar for Johor lawmakers to meet soon on the Covid-19 pandemic.
In a statement today, coalition leaders said a bi-partisan discussion over the matter was the best way forward to find solutions to save lives and livelihoods.
Since Menteri Besar Hasni Mohammad has committed to holding the meeting next week, Johor Harapan leaders urged him to include the following matters in the agenda:
1. Mass testing using state government assets such as KPJ Healthcare;
2. Strategise ways to increase vaccine registration beyond the current 43.83 percent;
3. Design an aid package for the people of Johor;
4. Plan ways to reopen borders soon, especially with Singapore; and
5. To table a resolution to end the emergency.
The joint statement was signed by Amanah Johor head and state opposition leader Aminolhuda Hassan (above), Johor PKR leader Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh, and Johor DAP leader Liew Chin Tong.
Yesterday, Sultan Ibrahim said although the State Legislative Assembly cannot be convened due to the proclamation of emergency, lawmakers can still meet in other ways.
“Through this discussion, all MPs and state assemblypersons can air their views on ways to stop the spread of Covid-19 and solve problems faced by Bangsa Johor,” decreed the ruler.
Putrajaya has not allowed any legislature to convene during the emergency period despite the Yang di-Pertuan Agong stating in February that he would allow this, should the prime minister advise it.
So far, Putrajaya has not given any indication that it is inclined to do so, despite most lawmakers having been vaccinated against Covid-19.
