Police wrapping up probe on rape allegations linked to Gombak Setia rep

Police are wrapping up their probe on rape allegations by a 33-year-old victim against two men with purported links to Gombak Setia assemblyperson Hilman Idham.

When contacted, Kuala Lumpur police chief Azmi Abu Kassim said the investigation, which started last December, is expected to be completed soon.

"Our investigation is almost done.

"The investigation papers will be referred to the Attorney-General's Chambers soon," Azmi told Malaysiakini.

Azmi e earlier told reporters at the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters that the investigation papers will be submitted by tomorrow or at the end of this week.

He also confirmed that there were no new arrests, aside from two individuals reportedly detained last December and released on police bail.

The victim had lodged a first police report on Dec 5 accusing two men of alleged rape, but this was later withdrawn on Dec 8 over alleged intimidation.

However, she later changed her mind and requested for investigations to proceed in January.

One of the alleged offenders is a Perikatan Nasional component party division leader, while the other is said to be a longtime close associate of Hilman.

According to her first police report, she awoke at 4am (on Dec 5) in a hotel room alone and naked, and felt she had been violated. She later found a condom in the bathroom.

She also lodged a second police report on May 8 with details of the alleged intimidation, as well as to accuse Hilman of "setting up" the rape incident after her birthday dinner and karaoke session at a hotel in Sri Hartamas.

She had previously revealed herself to be the woman seen being assisted to walk into a hotel room, by a man she claimed to be Hilman, in a grainy CCTV recording that went viral earlier this month.
