M'sia estimated to reach 10pct fully vaccinated by mid-July

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) Coordinating Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the country is estimated to fully vaccinate 10 percent of its population by mid-July.
That is one of three criteria that need to be achieved before the country can transition to Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan, he said.
“The transition into Phase 2 is assumed to be at the end of this month, but we look at the phases as something dynamic.
“There are three criteria we need to achieve: the daily cases, the capacity of the Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and vaccination.
“(One of the criteria) under the NIP is to reach 10 percent (of the population) fully vaccinated. We estimate this can be achieved by mid-July,” Khairy said.
He was speaking at a joint press conference with Health Minister Dr Adham Baba held in Putrajaya and broadcasted online simultaneously.
Khairy also said they need to administer 10.7 million doses in order to achieve 10 percent fully vaccinated.
“For every 100 doses we administer, 30 doses are second doses… We need to administer 10.7 million doses to achieve 10 percent fully vaccinated.
“We are aiming to administer eight million doses in June, and hopefully, we will reach 10.7 million in mid-July,” he said.
Meanwhile, Adham said the indicators for ICU capacity and daily cases have also decreased a little bit recently.
However, he reminded that the threshold they were aiming for daily cases is a seven-day average below 4,000 cases.
For the seven days between June 14 and 20, Adham said, the average was 5,557.
“We still have seven more days (to the scheduled end of Phase 1), we are still monitoring the situation.
“We are sure these (criteria) can be achieved with the cooperation, solidarity and determination to continue fighting the Covid-19 pandemic, with a whole-of-government and whole-of-society approach,” Adham said.
