Yeoh urges govt to vaccinate everyone under EMCO, regardless of nationality

Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh has urged Putrajaya to vaccinate people living in areas under enhanced movement control order (MCO), regardless of their nationality.
She said the country cannot afford to have a lack of vaccination among foreigners spiralling into another wave of Covid-19 infections.
"I urge for vaccination to be immediately given to the population in enhanced MCO (areas) - regardless of their citizenship - once they are tested negative for Covid-19.
"Our priority during this time of the pandemic should be for the safety and health of every life – of our whole nation – this includes the lives of foreigners living in our midst. The virus does not distinguish between a local and a foreigner," she said in a statement today.
Yeoh cited enhanced MCOs in localities such as Kampung Segambut Dalam as of last week, and Kampung Sungai Penchala last month as areas where there were large migrant populations that should have been vaccinated.
It should be noted that at the Mentari Court enhanced MCO in Sunway, authorities will be vaccinating residents - including foreigners - starting Sunday.
In the past seven days, 24.18 percent out of 42,120 new cases of Covid-19 involved foreigners, while the rest were Malaysians.
The federal government yesterday announced that most sub-districts in Selangor and parts of Kuala Lumpur will also be placed under an enhanced MCO.
The rules for the sub-districts enhanced MCO are different from those in localities, and it remains to be seen how tight the enforcement will be.
